The dunk test is a method of detecting leaks, based on the presence of air bubbles in the water. This method suits the following scenarios:

    • Very high leakage levels admitted
    • Control of several parts simultaneously.
    • The test time is not critical.
    • The location of the leak must be known.

However, a disadvantage is that it requires a person to check for bubbles, during which time the operator cannot perform other tasks while the part is being processed. The current trend is to opt for the use of an absolute leak tester, particularly to optimise the operator’s tasks. If the admitted leakage level is high, a pressure switch can also be used.
